Our Research Centre, opened in 1987 and the first of its kind in the country, is available for members use. The centre is also open to members of other Scottish Family History Societies. The Research Centre is the hub of the Society's activities, staffed by volunteer members who are delighted to assist you trace your family tree and tell you how to go about it.
Facilities include free WiFi, a large library, microfilm and microfiche of the IGI (the whole world), OPR's and census records for a wide area.
Research assistance into N.E. Scotland ancestry can be carried out for out-of-area members by Society volunteers, at a nominal charge plus expenses (such as Registrar's fees, postage, photocopies etc.). In addition to our own series of publications, a comprehensive range of publications is stocked, including those of other Scottish Societies and the Federation of Family History Societies.

In the Research Centre we are still taking sensible Covid precautions, but we have relaxed previous restrictions in line with latest government advice, and we are pleased to welcome any members and other visitors during our normal opening hours, with no pre-booking required.
