Welcome to the website of the Aberdeen & North-East Scotland Family History Society.
Genealogy's growing popularity is, in a large part, due to the efforts of Scotland's network of family history societies. Since its foundation in 1978, the Aberdeen & NE Scotland Family History Society has had more than 21,000 members with a core membership that has exceeded 5,000 per annum.
The Aberdeen & North-East Scotland Family History Society exists to assist and promote the study of genealogy and family history based on the North-East corner of Scotland. This area covers the old counties of Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire and Morayshire. We also hold records for the whole of Scotland and a considerable amount of data on the rest of the U.K. as well as many places around the world where Scots can be found, which I suppose includes the whole world.
The DataBank is a collection of Indexes and Transcriptions of original source material produced by ANESFHS members, and generally not available elsewhere. Some of the datasets may previously have been available on paper at the ANESFHS Centre, others may have been available online on other sites.
Our bookshop has a wide range of family and local history titles - particularly relating to Aberdeen and the North-East. Several hundred orders for books, maps and fiche are sent worldwide every year.
Our Research Centre, opened in 1987 and the first of its kind in the country, is available for members use. The centre is also open to members of other Scottish Family History Societies. The Research Centre is the hub of the Society's activities, staffed by volunteer members who are delighted to assist you trace your family tree and tell you how to go about it.
